Celebrities, gamers live-stream to support Sinai Health front-line workers

May 29, 2020

On Saturday, May 2, an incredible lineup of celebrities, athletes and online gamers from Canada and around the world came together for Sinai Live, a live-stream event that raised more than $64,000 for front-line workers at Sinai Health.

"The doctors and nurses at our hospitals need our support now more than ever," said Louis de Melo, CEO of Sinai Health Foundation. "Sinai Live gave Torontonians a fun and engaging way to connect and show their support while maintaining physical distance at home."

The result of a partnership between Sinai Health Foundation and Deloitte Canada, Sinai Live received prominent coverage from the National Post and other media outlets.

Toronto Mayor John Tory and Ben Mulroney kicked off the event with a live Q&A, followed by messages from Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Ontario Premier Doug Ford. Hosts Marissa Roberto (TSN), Faizal Khamisa (Sportsnet) and tech expert Amber Mac led viewers through 11 hours of programming, including well-known Canadian guests such as Family Feud host, Gerry Dee, and Dr. Brian Goldman, host of CBC radio’s White Coat, Black Art, and high-profile gamers Autumn and FaZe Agony.

Joining the fun were several NHL players including the Toronto Maple Leafs' Zach Hyman, who is also the founder of esports company Eleven Gaming.

Proceeds from Sinai Live will support front-line health-care workers and patients in isolation at Mount Sinai Hospital and Bridgepoint Active Healthcare. Funds will help purchase essential medical supplies such as meals and overnight accommodations, and pay for technologies to keep isolated patients connected with their loved ones.

"The results of Sinai Live speak to the power of our collaboration with Deloitte Canada," said De Melo. "Sinai Health Foundation is committed to innovation, and it was wonderful to have the opportunity to partner with such inventive thinkers to break into this new territory together."
