Marvelle Koffler’s legacy of philanthropy and care

Jan. 14, 2020

Marvelle Koffler (z"l) was a true visionary. Shortly after her own diagnosis of breast cancer a quarter century ago, she and her family established the Marvelle Koffler Breast Centre at Mount Sinai Hospital.

It was the first truly multidisciplinary breast centre in Canada, with a focus on patient comfort coupled with excellence in care. Since its opening, there have been almost one million patient visits, each visit in an environment of comfort and caring.

Mrs. Koffler also established an endowed Chair in Breast Cancer, ensuring that health-care professionals at the Breast Centre would contribute knowledge about breast cancer care to the broader breast cancer community.

“Marvelle’s grace, warmth and caring were much appreciated by Breast Centre staff and patients,” said Dr. Pamela Goodwin, past-Director of the Marvelle Koffler Breast Centre. “She will be sorely missed, but her groundbreaking contributions will allow her legacy to continue.”

She passed away peacefully at her residence, surrounded by family and caregivers. In recognition of Koffler’s passionate commitment to community, donations may be directed to The Marvelle Koffler Breast Centre.
