#ThankfulThursday Featuring: Logan Lass & Colours For COVID

Jun. 4, 2020

Every Thursday, we share stories from members of our Sinai Health community who have been instrumental in helping our Champions of Care respond to the COVID-19 crisis. Every donor who has supported the Sinai Health CEO Fund is providing critical support to the ongoing needs of our front-line staff and hospitals.

Q & A with Logan Lass

Logan Lass of Toronto knows all too well how the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted Mount Sinai Hospital’s front-line workers — in part because she lives with one of them. Logan is married to Dr. Elliot Lass, a family medicine resident physician who has been caring for COVID-19 patients, working in Mount Sinai’s COVID-19 Assessment Centre, and is part of the Sinai team that has provided long-term care outreach.

Logan, who works in marketing at McDonald's Canada, wanted to find a way to help. So she started creating and selling tie-dye sweaters, and donating all net proceeds to Sinai Health Foundation to provide relief for front-line workers during the COVID crisis.

Colours for COVID has already surpassed $2,000 in net proceeds, and McDonald's Canada has offered to match her donation!

Q. How did you learn to tie-dye? Your stuff is great!

Thank you so much! I actually taught myself through YouTube videos and other online tutorials. I wanted some fun after-work activities to keep busy during quarantine, so I bought a kit on Amazon. After making a few sweaters and playing around with different techniques, I was hooked!

Q. What inspired you to support Sinai Health?

Mount Sinai is a very special hospital to me. Not only does my husband work there, but I was born there, and it is the hospital that I have benefited from for my health care in the past. I am proud of all the doctors, nurses, and allied health workers who are risking their lives during this difficult time. And for me, it was a given that I would be donating the funds raised to this incredible hospital.

Q. What would you say to the front-line health-care workers who are providing life-saving care?

THANK YOU! Thank you for your courage, strength, and compassion. No words can truly describe how appreciative I am of each and every one of you on the front lines.

Q. Why should others support organizations like Sinai Health which are dealing with this health-care crisis head on?

To pay their respects to the people risking their lives for us. It’s important to give back during these difficult times whether it’s supporting your favourite charity, local restaurant, or hospital. Now more than ever, we need to come together.

Q. What are you doing to remain positive and stay connected to people during these challenging times?

Aside from my tie-dye, I’ve been very lucky to be working and keeping busy Monday through Friday with my job at McDonald’s Canada. Elliot and I have also been trying to remain active and go on long walks and bike rides in Toronto. Staying connected to friends and family is also very important to me with lots of FaceTimes and Zoom calls as part of my routine.
