Accolades for our Sinai Health leaders

Aug. 4, 2020

Physicians and scientists at Sinai Health frequently garner recognition for their research contributions and their commitment to improving patient care.

Dr. Chaim Bell awarded the prestigious Dr. David Sackett Senior Investigator Award from CSIM

Sinai Health Physician-in-Chief Dr. Chaim Bell has been awarded the 2020 Dr. David Sackett Senior Investigator Award from the Canadian Society of Internal Medicine.

Dr. Bell studies health systems (both administration and policy), and examines how best to deliver health services and measure performance. He is focused on improving the quality of patient care in hospitals and ensuring a smooth, continuous transition of care once patients are discharged back to the community. He has made important contributions to our understanding of effects of unintentional medical discontinuation.

“We’re incredibly proud of Chaim’s achievements,” says Louis de Melo, CEO of Sinai Health Foundation. “This is a testament to his tremendous contributions to improving care for patients.”

Dr. Bjug Borgundvaag awarded the 2020 DFCM Award of Excellence in Creative Professional Activity

The University of Toronto’s Department of Family and Community Medicine (DFCM) has recognized Dr. Bjug Borgundvaag for conceiving and building the Schwartz/Reisman Emergency Medicine Institute (SREMI) at Sinai Health.

SREMI is a clinical research group that is improving how emergency care is delivered. Its clinical researchers create best practices and new tools that improve clinical decision-making, diagnosis, treatment, safety, infection prevention, and specialized geriatric care in emergency settings. By finding practical solutions to clinical challenges, their work keeps patients safer and helps them recover faster.
